Braid Interface

Interface Hardware and Software Design for Kite’s piece Hél čhaŋkú kiŋ ȟpáye that premiered at PS122 Gallery.

For this piece I designed a hardware and software system that would receive positional data from IMU motion sensors to feed into a custom neural network that controls sound and projection in real time. The system for handling the data is developed in TouchDesigner which is also controlling the generative visuals that are projected into the gallery. The neural network is trained to create complex mappings between the braid, how and where it is moved and held, and the mix and manipulation of the sound and visual elements.
